I started playing piano as a child and continued with lessons through high school. And for decades there was noting….until I went on a mission trip. And let’s face it, if you are going do missionary work, you HAVE to learn to play a guitar. So I took a couple lessons but pretty much taught myself and was able to play some chords, stay on the beat and lead worship.

In 2019 I started playing with a church. I wasn’t playing with the church because I was a good guitar player. I was playing because it was a small church, and I was the only one available. However, playing every week really helped me to become a better player; someone who just didn’t know the chords and progressions, but how to listen and flow in whatever direction our leader took us.

Sometime thereafter, we had a need for a keyboard player. I came to rehearsal one night to see if my childhood skills were helpful. Fortunately, they did. Playing keys was very natural team and suddenly I was become a really musician. It’s been an incredible late in life journey. Not only does it seem like people enjoy hearing me play, but it’s an amazing time where I can just play by myself, learn some new stuff, and connect with God.
